In July 2010, the Narita Sky Access Line opened as a new route connecting central Tokyo and Narita Airport, and the AE-type Skyliner trains began operating as airport express trains on the line.
This type of train runs at 160km/h, the fastest speed in Japan other than the Shinkansen, connecting Nippori and the Airport Terminal 2 in as little as 36 minutes.
Narita Airport has many tourists from Asia, and the Skyliner has also increased its frequency significantly since it first opened.
