The E3-2000 series is a train that was introduced for the Yamagata Shinkansen in 2008.
Since 2014, the train has been repainted in a color scheme that evokes the white of the Zao snow, the purple of the ornamental feathers of the mandarin duck, Yamagata's prefectural bird, and the yellow and red of the safflower, Yamagata's prefectural flower.
