The 381 series was the first tilting-type express train for commercial use developed by Japanese National Railways, and made its debut on the Shinano express train in 1973 when the Central Central Line was electrified.

The Saro 381 type was different from the green cars of conventional express trains, and featured a unique appearance with long horizontal windows and bars.

• The roof is reproduced in gray
• Venetian blinds on the windows can be selectively installed with included parts
• The seats are reproduced in red for the Salo and blue for the Moha
• Close-coupling TN coupler is standard equipment
• Can pass through a minimum radius of R490 (excluding S-shaped linear tracks)
